Together for 30 Five Star Supporter Awards - Heather
September was a month of celebrating our 30th anniversary by encouraging people to get active and get together to take on our Together for 30 fundraising challenge. Last week I took the opportunity to clock up another 16 miles towards my challenge by delivering the first of our Five Star Supporter awards!
I was delighted that our first recipient is Heather Milne. I’ve known Heather for many years and she’s been a friend and supporter to Your Voice Counts throughout that time. Heather is passionate about volunteering. She set up the hugely valuable Community Links service for Gateshead Council, and has recruited and supported scores of volunteers over the years who have made a huge difference to lives of people with learning disabilities in the borough. Now that she’s retired Heather continues to offer her time and energy by volunteering with Your Voice Counts. The team wanted to nominate her because of the difference she’s made to the people we support by helping us to run activities and outings before Covid, then by helping us to deliver much needed safe socially distant activities during lockdown, including our popular Bensham Grove session and a walking group.
It was great to catch up with her over a socially distanced coffee about some of the people she’s worked with over the years, many of whom she has remained in contact with.
If you’d like to find out more about Heather’s story and why she enjoys volunteering so much then you can read her story here.
