Equal People South Tyneside

Join the Equal People Group

Equal People South Tyneside is a group for people with learning disabilities and autistic people
who live in South Tyneside.

We meet to talk about how the health and social care services we receive can get better.  We share
our views and our experiences.  Sometimes people who work for organisations such as the council,
NHS and charities come along to ask us questions and find out what we think of their work.

When do we meet?

We meet on the first Wednesday of the month from 12.30pm to 2.00pm.

Where do we meet?

We meet at Grange Road Baptist Church, 14 Grange Road West, Jarrow, NE32 3JA..

How do we make a difference?

Your Voice Counts believes in listening to and helping people with different needs and abilities to bring about positive change  themselves.  Equal People gives us the chance to do this by sharing our views directly with the people who are responsible for providing services for people with learning disabilities in our area.

We have taken part in the development of the Learning Disability Strategy for South Tyneside and regularly work with service providers to help them design, develop and improve their services.

We also work to make sure it is possible for people with learning disabilities to take part and have a say.  One of the ways we do this is by helping to make sure information is accessible.  We can support organisations to create Easy Read materials and have produced the Safeguarding leaflet and LeDeR (Learning from Lives and Deaths) report in Easy Read so as many people as possible can understand them.
