Dementia Action Week – The importance of advocacy volunteers

Our advocacy service supports hundred of people living with dementia in our area so during #DementiaActionWeek we’re highlighting the importance of advocacy and how we put the person at the centre of our work.
Our service is supported by our team of advocacy volunteers who spend valuable time with residents in care settings, helping to reduce isolation, build connections and bring warmth, conversation and companionship to people living with dementia and other support needs. These visits can make a real difference by encouraging social interaction and helping residents feel connected and valued.
We are incredibly grateful for the enthusiasm and compassion our volunteers bring to Your Voice Counts - your support truly makes a difference.
Roisin, a law student and advocacy volunteer at Your Voice Counts, said:
“Through volunteering at YVC I’ve helped advocates make sure that clients with dementia have their wishes taken into account when important decisions are being made about their lives.”
Emma, a psychology student and advocacy volunteer, added:
“I feel that through advocacy volunteering I have helped people with dementia feel listened to and respected. Making sure their voice is heard can make a real difference to their confidence and wellbeing.”
