Meet an Independent Advocate ​​

Our Independent Advocates visit community groups, events and sessions organised by partner organisations. These visits give people an informal opportunity to learn about advocacy and ask questions.

 

We attend community sessions by arrangement. From time to time, we may also organise or host an open advocacy drop-in or peer session.

 

At a community session, an advocate can:

​

• explain what independent advocacy is and how it may help

• help people understand their rights and options

• answer general questions about our advocacy services

• have an informal conversation with someone who may need support

• explain how to make a referral or get further help.

Invite an advocate to your session

​

Community groups, charities and partner organisations can ask us to attend an existing session, meeting or event. Depending on what would be most useful, an advocate may:

​

• give a short introduction to advocacy

• join a group discussion

• answer questions from participants

• offer informal one-to-one conversations

• help host an advocacy drop-in or peer session.

• the name of your group or organisation

• who usually attends

• the proposed date, time and location

• what you would like the advocate to offer.

We will use this page to share details of confirmed open sessions and occasional updates from community events we have attended.

There are currently no regular monthly drop-in dates. Please check this page for updates or contact us if you would like to invite an advocate to your group.

Do I need a referral?

​

You do not need a referral to attend an advertised open session or have an initial informal conversation.

​

If you would like individual advocacy support, the advocate can explain the next step. Initial referral information can be provided using the appropriate referral form or by contacting us directly.
