Partying in the park for Carer's Week
Lots of the people we support and their families are unpaid carers so we were pleased to get involved in Carer’s Week 2023 by attending different events during the week to show our support and raise awareness of the invaluable role unpaid carers play.
In Gateshead, we were invited to join the Gateshead Carers Party in the Park which brought together fun activities with local sources of information and advice for people who are carers. The sun shone and we had a fantastic day talking to people about the support on offer from Your Voice Counts and giving people the chance to meet other carers in a friendly and relaxed environment.
Some of the people we support also made some delicious cakes and brownies to sell alongside running a wet sponge competition with our Senior Community Connector Ady as the target! Thank you to everyone who came along and said hi!
In South Tyneside, pop up events were happening all week which we were also pleased to support. These provided lots of useful information for unpaid carers who live locally, including one of our colleagues Paula who cares for her dad and connected with other sources of support on the day.
People who are unpaid carers often experience loneliness and isolation because of their role but help is available so events like these are are an important way of helping carers make connections and access the support they need.
