National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards 2025

Ricky Richardson, Amy Broughton and Ricky Usher from our team recently represented Your Voice Counts at the National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards 2025.

Ricky Richardson initially joined our team as a volunteer before going on to secure paid employment with us as a Peer Support Worker where he brings his lived experience into his work supporting others. Here, he shares his reflections from the event and why celebrating good practice and achievements from our sector is so important.

"I recently had the honour of attending the 2025 National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards in Birmingham, following a trip to London — and I wanted to take a moment to share what was truly an unforgettable experience.

"The evening was filled with powerful stories, inspiring individuals, and a deep sense of community spirit. It was a celebration of the incredible work being done across the country to promote inclusion, neurodiversity, and lived experience, and I came away feeling both uplifted and more motivated than ever.

"One particularly memorable moment was meeting Peter Andre, who was attending as a special guest. Not only did I have the opportunity to speak with him and take a photo, but I also received a signed message:

"All my love, Peter Andre."

"It’s a message I’ll treasure — a small but personal reminder of the importance of visibility and support for those with lived experience.

"Events like this reinforce why we do what we do, and I remain fully committed to championing neurodiversity, accessibility, and meaningful inclusion in all aspects of our work.

"Thank you for continuing to be part of this important journey."
