Celebrating Learning Disability Week in South Tyneside
Learning Disability Week 2021 #LDWeek2021 takes place from 14-18 June and the team at Your Voice Counts has arranged activities to celebrate the achievements of the people we work with and provide opportunities for people with learning disabilities and autistic people to join in with this year’s Learning Disability Week arts and creativity theme.
This week our South Tyneside drop-ins are reopening:
Jarrow Grange Road Baptist Church
12.30pm – 2.30pm
Every Wednesday
Boldon Community Association
10.30am – 12.30pm
Every Thursday
They will be a bit different to normal because of restrictions so people will have to book a space to come along but we will be doing lots of creative activities and sharing the activity online.
We’ll also be running our cooking with confidence sessions as usual on a Monday, and a creative crew online session are just some of the hands-on events that will encourage people to express themselves through new activities. Artwork from recent art and poetry lived experience groups will be available to enjoy online at Creative Crew Online! and we will be displaying bunting that people from our group in Jarrow have made representing things that are important to them.
A special Picnic in the Park event organised by the Speaking Up Together self-advocacy group (a newly constituted self-advocacy group formerly known as Talk to Us South Tyneside and Gateshead People) will also follow, taking place on Wednesday 23 June in Saltwell Park, Gateshead. It’s open to people in both South Tyneside and Gateshead with learning disabilities and their friends and families.
