Working with South Tyneside Clinical Commissioning Group to support the Covid-19 vaccine roll-out

We understand the Covid-19 vaccination programme can be intimidating and confusing for many people so we are delighted to receive funding from South Tyneside Clinical Commissioning Group to provide tailored vaccine support to people with learning disabilities or autism in South Tyneside.

Using our experience of working with people on the learning disability register, we are reaching out to the community to provide accessible information about the vaccine, help people and their carers understand their choices and respond to questions and concerns. We’re also providing direct support to book vaccine appointments and offering advice around accessing other health services such as annual health checks and flu jabs where needed.

Project update

In the space of only five days during March, our team called 948 people and booked 132 vaccine appointment slots for people with learning disabilities and their unpaid carers. We also identified 125 people interested in getting more support from us on a longer term basis who we'll be keeping in touch with over the coming months.
