What is IMCA ? The government has said that people who can't make decisions for themselves and have no family or friends to help them must be able to have an independent mental capacity Advocate if they need to make a decision about:
	Serious Medical Treatment (click here for examples)
	Moving Somewhere for a long time
	The Advocate may also be able to help if the person has been accused of abused or neglected or is accused of abusing someone else.
	The Advocate can also help with care reviews if they are about changes to where the person lives.
	The Advocate will speak up about the person's wishes, feelings, beliefs and values.  They will bring to the attention of the decision - maker all the things that are important about the decision.
	The Advocate can challenge the decision maker on behalf of the person who can not make their own decisions if this is needed.
